Midnight Musings

A deep slumber is disturbed by a quivering Maaaaaaa sound and you know she is dreaming. You gently touch, she quickly grabs you and takes shelter in you. You try to ask what is bothering her, she replies, 'I had a nightmare.'

She hurriedly hugs you. You too bring her close to your bosom, trying to make her feel safe. You kiss her forehead, ruffle her hair trying to make her feel secure. You tell her that you are right there and she hugs you tightly.
She dozes off to sleep again.
Your sleep just jumped out of your eyes and escaped into unknown lands. You are left with the sound of the whirring fan and the intermittent zzzzz of the snoring husband. Somehow you manage to get the phone with the hand that's free (the other has turned itself into a pillow for the little one) and start typing.

You remember your childhood when similar incidents occurred with you too and reaching out to Ma was the only solace. You smile and kiss your child once again. You feel grateful for being blessed with Ma and motherhood.

Lekin bhaiya ab toh...

Saari raat hum
Jaag jaag ke jee liye
Ek pal toh Hume
Neend aane do Ane do!
Give me some sleep
Give me some relief
Give me another chance
I wanna get some sleep 😴

Why is Mother's Day so special?

The conversation between my six year old and me led to this post. In her sweet, simple way little Biryani expressed the real fact of what makes this day so special for us mothers.

Ma: Achha Biryani tell me what is so special about Mother's Day?

Biryani: Because it gave her (the mother) the child.

Ma: So what?

Biryani: Because that's what made her ( the mother) the happiest person on Earth naa!

Indeed, holding you in my shaky arms for the first time, touching you to see if you are for real were moments beyond words or adjectives could describe. Since then life has been tough... There have been times when I lost my cool, I screamt,i cried because motherhood doesn't come with prior experience and certification; it's to be felt and gradually experienced. I have had my moments of complete break down but it was you who brought back the power and strength in me.

I know how much I wanted to be a mother in spite of those miscarriages that tormented both my body and soul. You didn't come into my life easily but you made every moment worth since your birth.

I know I am not perfect mother and I don't strive to be one.I am a mother who is more humane and normal. I don't want to show you that life is perfect or your Ma is perfect. Through my imperfections I want you to learn the real facts of life, of dealing with your demons and crisis. You have given me the most happiest moments of my life Biryani... Thank you for choosing me as your mother ❤️

All Out...The mosquito repellent story

Remember those All Out days???

The initial days of the mosquito repellent wave in the country. It was such a relief from the choking kachua chaap coils and mosquito nets! However, no one addressed those automatic liquid filled machines as mosquito repellent..It was 'All out taa lagie de' or 'All out laga do' etc. The languages varied, not the expressions.

Remember the first All Out advertisement that appeared on television? That machine with a tongue 😛 that attacked and killed the mosquitoes, the Japanese man doing monkey see monkey do type of a thing 🤣

Wow! Good old days! Memories of sleeping aaram se without the 'Moshari' or mosquito nets. Wasn't it some kind of a freedom for all of us ?  Inconsequential, yet such  soul stirring experiences that made up our growing up days!

The eighties and nineties kids surely experienced the massive change that the country underwent in terms of products, brands, technology. The transition from a simple to a more tech savvy product made us wonder. The new world was indeed years away then but we experienced the tiniest of change with much excitement and joy.

How the entire country suddenly got used to new beginnings was in itself an experience. From the young to the old, all and sundry embraced the changes with open hands. India slowly became an important market to the foreign brands and there has been no looking back since.

As they say... Change is the only constant.

Being Amitabh Bachchan

11th October used to be the day of the Divine for me as a child. I would wake up early, head for my bath and enter the pooja room in immaculate clothes. Babu knew exactly what I needed for the puja so he would keep things ready. I would decorate the idol, offering flowers and naivadya to the deity with extreme care and devotion. The prayer that day was only meant for one person... Mr.  Amitabh Bachchan.

Yes, it's his birthday today and this day brings back these crazy memories of my Amitabh smitten childhood.

Friends and family would call to wish me as if it was my birthday 😁  The whole day was dedicated to this man whom I called 'Kaka' out of affection. The day would not end with me watching Sholay and weeping in the last scene when my favourite actor breathes his last onscreen.

Remember maintaining a diary which had newspaper cut outs, magazine cut out, trivia, articles and numerous pages written by me in honour of Mr. Bachhan. The only wish those days was ... Isshhh ekbar Jodi onake samne dekhte partam ( Wish I could see him in person once ) And as they say if you wish something from the bottom of your heart the universe makes sure it happens. I saw him not once but twice in my life. 😁

Today  when I look back to those days I feel so good! My parents never chided me for being a movie buff or doing such crazy stuff. They just let me be. I remember Babu getting me the Lomani Amitabh B cologne after bhai told him to buy one and surprise me 🥰

I still dislike when someone tells me that I am a fan of Amitabh Bachchan... I wasn't a fan... I was someone who loved him and admired him irrespective of him having a clue that there's this little girl somewhere on the planet who eats, sleeps, breathes Amitabh Bachchan.

Now  I am in my forties and the  'paglami' has subsided but somewhere that little girl is alive and she quietly prays for the legend 😊 Yes we grow up, we become old... But we should keep the kid alive within us to cherish and smile thinking of good old childhood days.

PS: There were, there are, there will be  superstars but there's only one AMITABH BACHCHAN ❤️

Thank you for making my childhood fun and exciting! You are the reason I fell in love with cinema as a child. Happy Eightieth Legend ❤️
